Reading for Effective Communication!

Read to Understand, Enrich Vocabulary:

Reading is a wonderful habit. People read newspapers, journals, magazines and books to improve their knowledge and vocabulary. Students who read any of the above regularly will obviously possess rich vocabulary. In terms of communication, words are very important in conveying the right message. Many times we fail to communicate properly due to usage of wrong words and also hurt others when we use negative words.

Read interesting books:

Let’s start reading interesting books to understand the comprehension or the writer’s view. We must start reading slowly to make it a habit first and then work on the words and sentences. When we come across new words in the book, we must refer a dictionary and then write the word in a book with the meaning. Start using those words in regular speech. Always try to use positive words to avoid hurting others.

Note taking:

Note taking is a wonderful practice of writing down information from various sources such as lectures, meetings and books. The writer takes note to refer the information once the event is over. Note taking helps us to understand the message of the speaker or book. People who take notes in the class communicate others that they are totally involved in the sessions and also show their eagerness to learn.

Once you list points above, make an analysis of how it helped you to understand the concept. Students who avoid taking notes generally have less knowledge compared to students who have the habit of taking notes.

Doubts arise in the mind only when we refer the notes we took in the class. When our doubts get clarified we enrich our knowledge. Obviously we communicate well when we have knowledge.

Our practical knowledge depends upon the fundamentals of the subjects. Note taking is a good practice to achieve fundamentals of the subject.

Note Making:

Note making involves selecting, analyzing and summarizing what you heard or read. Note making is a more difficult task than note taking. It comes with lot of thinking and analyzing about the lecture or a book.

Note making forces people to think as it involves lot of decisions, concentration and attention for details

Make notes which are good, brief, concise and accurate that may reflect your understanding on the nature of the information you are referring to and which you can use it later.
